City Council Invites Residents to celebrate the life of a family member.

Southampton City Council is proud to host the annual Trees for Life event on Saturday, 6 December, offering a special opportunity for members of the community to come together and plant a tree to celebrate the life of a family member. This could be a new baby born in Southampton or in memory of a loved one.

This heartfelt event invites individuals and families to commemorate those who hold a special place in their hearts by planting a living tribute in Southampton’s Veracity Park. The planting ceremony not only creates a lasting legacy but also contributes to the city’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its natural environment and, Green City and Net Zero goals.

Councillor Pat Evemy, The Sheriff of Southampton will be in attendance to join the community and sign the planting certificates, said: “This is such a wonderful initiative that we have here in Southampton and I’m very proud to be a part of it. In our recent City Survey, our citizens agreed that our green spaces were what makes Southampton so special, so this is a lovely way of going that extra, more personal mile.”

Councillor John Savage, Cabinet Member for Green City and Net Zero added: “ Trees for Life is a fantastic initiative that brings us closer to nature. At the council, as part of our Green City Plan, we want to increase Southampton’s tree coverage by planting at least 5,000 trees by 2030, and what better way to do this than by celebrating the lives of the ones we love in a city that means so much to us.”

Registration for Trees for Life is free and open now. Participants are encouraged to sign up early to secure their place.
